Face should cover 70–80% of the photo area, centred
Plain white background, no shadows or patterns
Neutral expression, both eyes open
No glasses recommended

Frequently asked questions

What size is an Indian passport photo?

51×51 mm (2×2 inches) with a plain white background. Some Passport Seva services also accept 45×35 mm — always check the specific form.

Are glasses allowed in an Indian passport photo?

Glasses are not recommended but not explicitly banned. If worn, they must not create glare or shadow on the eyes.

Are head coverings allowed?

Religious head coverings are permitted as long as the full face — from forehead to chin, ear to ear — is clearly visible.
